What is Krishna for me?

Narayan, Kanha, Govinda many names, many deeds, many character hidden inside. Sometimes a symbol of love to a symbol of gratitude and knowledge, yes “Krishna” of whome I am talking about. As an Indian and born in early 1990’s, I have seen the base to zenith of krishna consiousness around the world. TV serials and movies related to Krishna played important role in generating interest in him. But more than the moving pictures, books like Gita and Gita-Govinda helped us more in knowing his persona more clearly.

There are many people with their own believes and faith on Krishna. Some call him God while some not. I may have a different opinion over Krishna. I don’t worship Krishna, but he is one of my hero and an ideal role model to follow. I follow Krishna as the teacher who taught us how to deal with the real world situations. He made us aware of various kinds of deep life-cases like, love, emotion, leadership, humanity, war, knowledge, care, affection, anger, devotion whatever you can imagine, you can see in the Krishna character. Let us know more about him in different perspective.

As a Son: Krishna is born to Devaki while grown up by Yasoda. In one terms he showed and did all the childish naughtiest cute things with behavior to Yashoda and in other terms he also saved his biological parents from the dreaded uncle Kansa. In fact, he played the perfect example of a Son, who not only gave equal respect and gratitude towards his parents/Guardians, but also gave them the same position in all the phases of life.

For Gopiyaan: I heard one story in my childhood, I don’t know it’s truthfulness, but here is the story: Before the birth of krishna, many women around the world did great penance pleased God for a will, they all asked God the same thing “A Son”, the specific thing about that was, their son show be so naughty, cute and intelligent in behavior that they can feel proud and enjoy their motherhood. By hearing the will of so many women, God thought that it will be impossible and will not be fair if all the women at same time have the best son, so, he gave them Krishna. Krishna teased them like a baby, take their belongings specially the food items like butter and milk from them forcefully like it was his own, he didn’t thought for a second that Yasodas’s home is hos home, he made every other Gopi to think Krishna as their own son. See, the charm and the wittiness of Krishna, he pleased all at a same time, who else have done the same in the history of mankind?

As a Divine companion: Radha and Krishna stories are world famous. Many people think it as Krishna-Rasleela, some think it as a adulterous passion, some find it as a divine soul-body connection. I am having a different opinion with that. I think that it could be a social reform against the child marriage. If you look into the biography of Radha, she was married to Abhimanyu, but still she befriended with Krishna and the couple loved to spend time with each other(may be just friendly in nature). In one way, Krishna want us to tell that child marriage could be a wrong step and it could also lead to wander. Now let’s view from an other direction, it may be possible that Krishna wants to tell all teen girls of crossing their puberty, that boys may attract you, can befriend with you, but not to loose a single thread which may lead to destroy your piousness. For boys, the Krishna’s message could be like, if anyone gets attracted to you or loves you like anything, just return the same love to her, not lust her. Krishna loved Radha and both couple seems to be one soul in two bodies. That’s the love which is needed to learnt from Krishna… Love without Lust.

True Friend: Who haven’t heard about Sudama? The one who know Krishna, also knows Sudama. One may forget the stories of Radha-Krishna, but can’t deny existence of Sudama. Friendship of both is exemplary these days too. A king who cared even for the thoughts of his poor friend. Krishna never ever hurt even the single emotion of Sudama, he always respected and cared about the Sudama self-respect. A friend in need is a friend indeed, I think that proverb came from their friendship only. You may not find such friendship story in any other epic/myth/history.

Promise Keeper: Mahabharata war was occurred in Krishna’s era only. Where he participated as a mediocre. When Arjuna and Duryodhana went to him for help, he helped both over what they want. Arjuna asked for Krishna himself. So, he took the side of Pandawas but had promised to Kauravas that he will not use his own weapons against Kauravas. And slo gave his army to Kauravas. Which means, he kept his promise and in whole mahabharata war, he didn’t used any single weapon.

There are infinite things to be said about Krishna. He is one of the Narayana in Hindu mythology. Not even in Hindus, he is also the cousin of Lord Teerthanker Neminath as per Jainism. A true philosopher, true guide, a saver, friend, lover, all the things combines and form into Krishna. What we need to learn is how to be Krishna ourself, how to generate the true Krishna in our deep inside. It’s not so tough, just have faith and be good…
